More about the Friendship of Salem's Visit to Lynn
Stern view of Friendship. Photo Credit: Leighton O'Connor

Friendship is a replica of a 1797 three-masted, square rigged "East Indiaman" merchant ship used to open international trade with the Far East, Europe and Russia in the years after the American Revolution. The original Friendship was built in Salem by shipbuilder Enos Briggs at his shipyard across the river from what is today the National Park Service/Salem Maritime National Historic Site. As one of several interpretive features of the National Historic Site, Friendship is a commissioned vessel permanently moored at Derby Wharf. Under sail, Friendship also serves as goodwill ambassador for the Essex National Heritage Area.

Friendship will sail from Salem to Lynn and arrive mid-afternoon on Wednesday, August 15 on the high tide. She will be open for free dockside public tours on Thursday and Friday (August 16-17) from 11:00 AM – 4:00 PM and Saturday (August 18) from 10:00AM - 4:00PM.

A welcoming ceremony with public officials and other community leaders will be held on Thursday, August 16 beginning at 9:00 AM. The public is invited to attend the event.

Friendship’s visit to Lynn is presented in partnership with the City of Lynn, the MA Department of Conservation and Recreation, North Shore Community College, the North of Boston Convention and Visitors Bureau, and the Lynn Business Partnership, Inc. Her visit is sponsored by Old Neighborhood Quality Foods, Eastern Bank Charitable Foundation, Eastern Insurance Group, Salem Five Charitable Foundation, the Lynn Daily Item, and Grant Communications Consulting Group.
