Essex National Heritage Area
The Haverhill Historical Society

The Haverhill Historical Society and The Buttonwoods Museum has been interpreting the history of Haverhill for well over one hundred years. This November travel to the Merrimack Valley and experience the Museum for yourself. At the museum, you will find exhibits representing Native American Artifacts, early trade in the valley, and early colonial settlement. The museum is kid friendly and hosts many programs for school age children.

This past year the museum received a Partnership Grant to design and pilot an after school archaeology program for students. The program will give 6 th-8 th graders meaningful archaeology experience, while learning about early American life, and land stewardship, while also making a connection with their local community.

Previously an ENHC Preservation Partnership Grant helped the entire Haverhill Historical Society property gain eligibility for listing to the National Register of Historic Places. The Society is also finishing up a project which it partnered with Haverhill’s Brightside to improve access to the Buttonwoods Trail through a Trails and Greenways Partnership Grant.

The Haverhill Historical Society is also a designated ENHA visitor center. For more information about the museum, visit www.haverhillhistory.org.
