Peabody Historical Society Exterior

The Peabody Historical Society was established by Elizabeth Cheever Osborne in 1896 in order to preserve the heritage of the City of Peabody.

Headquartered at the General Gideon Foster House on Washington Street, the Society also manages the Elizabeth Cassidy Folk Art Museum & Peabody Art Association Gallery, Nathaniel Felton Sr. House, the Nathaniel Felton Jr. House, the Orchard House, the Apple Barn, and the Engine 3 Firehouse (the Peabody Historical Fire Museum.)

Peabody Historical Society InteriorPeabody Historical Society programs include an annual craft fair, a holiday open house, lectures, tours and other special events. Visitors to the General Gideon Foster House can view the Federal Period dining room of the Foster family, the Victorian parlor of the Merrill family (later occupants of the house), and rotating exhibits of costumes, textiles and military artifacts.
