This program is intended for participants with little to no experience and will teach those involved basic kayaking safety and introductory strokes. Participants should wear clothing that can get wet and bring drinking water. Camp Kent will provide the kayaks and life jackets. This program is intended for participants age ten and above. - Mary Baker Eddy, founder of the Church of Christ, Scientist in 1879, was a guest in this home during the summer and early fall of 1868 and again briefly in 1870. Mrs. Eddy found the Bagley home a quiet refuge for Bible study and she did some of her earliest writing on Christian Science in this historic house. - Visit The Rocky Hill Meeting House, the best preserved example of an original 18th century meeting house interior in New England. Built in 1785, it replaced a c. 1715 meeting house for the West Parish of Salisbury and was strategically placed along the only road that crossed (via ferry) the swift Powow River and led travelers to the Salisbury Point area and onward towards Portsmouth. - As one of Beverly's most familiar landmarks this lighthouse commands a spectacular view of not only Salem Sound, but also 3 other lighthouses at Baker's Island, Winter Island, and Marblehead. Visitors will be guided by members of the Coast Guard Auxiliary up a winding staircase and then up a seven-step ladder to the lantern room, and from there they will pass through the hatch onto the gallery balcony to enjoy the spectacular views. Don't forget to bring your cameras!

- Join us at the Cape Ann Museum for an introduction to the Museum’s permanent exhibition of the work of the Folly Cove Designers and view "Folly Cove Designers," a 1987 documentary film featuring original designer members Aino Clarke, Louise Kenyon, Lee Natti, Dorothy Norton and Peggy Norton. The film reviews in detail the design, printing and jurying process and offers unique glimpses of these Cape Ann block printmakers at work. The Folly Cove Designers, a guild of designer-craftsmen, were established in Gloucester in 1938 and worked together from 1941 until 1969. The group gained national fame for their nature-inspired printed fabrics. The Museum’s archive of their work includes samples of their printed textiles and paper, items made from their fabric including dresses, curtains and table runners, and examples of the linoleum blocks they carved. An Acorn press used by one of the designers is also on display. Well-known children’s book writer and author Virginia Lee Burton was the founder of the Folly Cove Designers and there is currently a display of her sketch books and mock-ups for titles such as "The Little House" and "Mike Mulligan and his Steam Shovel." Also on display will be additional items from the Museum’s Folly Cove Designers collection not normally on exhibit.

After the great fire of 1882, Italian immigrants who had settled in and around Washington Street helped rebuild Haverhill's decimated Shoe industry. Master Italian masons laid the intricate brickwork that is so distinctive of the Queen Ann buildings. - Cuvilly Arts & Earth Center is an organization dedicated to modeling ecological sustainability and promoting physical health and lifelong learning through education, the arts and agriculture. Founded in 1983, Cuvilly is located on the premises of a former dairy farm in Ipswich, Massachusetts. Our 1950s renovated dairy barn houses a pre-school, kindergarten, arts studio and office space. Our campus also includes: a historic, restored timber frame barn that is home to a variety of farm animals, a photovoltaic array and wind turbine that supply electricity for the center, a "Nushwetu"--an authentic native dwelling demonstrating local living through the wisdom of the indigenous people of this region, and several acres of land that include woodlands, trails, fields, an organic garden, a pond and an orchard. - Discover the fascinating life and art of Johan Selmer Larson, one of the founding members of the Marblehead Arts Association and renowned artist of his time. A short talk about his life and fascinating art will be given by his granddaughter and local writer Anne Whittier. The exhibit presents his finished art and also his sketchbooks, tools, fragments of his inspiration, and evidence of artistic investigation that allow you to understand what a fascinating local artist he was. He worked in collaboration with Frederick Law Olmstead for many years and his exquisite sculptural work can still be seen in places such as The Crane Estate and the Cloisters in Central Park. The Arts Association's other exhibits will also be open to the public during regular hours.

- Free block printing demonstration using an antique Acorn press made by the Adams of Boston 1830 to 1870. Linoleum blocks carved at the shop are used to make cards and printed fabric for use in the home. It follows the tradition of the Folly Cove Designers 1938 -1969 of Gloucester that was created by the praised local artist and writer Virginia Lee Burton Demetrios. - Salem used to have three distinct waterfront areas, on the North and South Rivers, and the Harbor. Today, only a small portion of the North River still exists and much of the South River was buried as part of the 19th c. land reclamation project. What's left is the Harbor waterfront. Beginning at Historic New England's Gedney House, which was sited to face the South River and Eleazor Gedney's shipyard on the river's banks, we will re-trace the South River and discover Salem's ever-changing waterfronts. Along the way we will examine topography, architecture, and travel in time from the 17th c. Salem of Gedney to Capt. Phillips' bustling 18th and 19th centuries.

- Hidden on the roof of the Hawthorne Hotel is an exact replica of a cabin from the Salem vessel Taria Topan. For over 3 centuries this cozy cabin has served as the headquarters of Salem's oldest organization, the Salem Marine Society. Join us for a very rare visit to the Salem Marine Society and a private tour of the elegant Federal-style Hawthorne Hotel. Learn why these two unique sites, each with their own story to tell, have been connected for over 80 years.

- Feather on the Moon, Sachem of the Massachusetts Ponkapoag Tribal Council, has directed us in building a Native American fish weir on our site. He will be giving a lecture and there will be other specialists on location running activities relating to Native American Flint-knapping and atlatl. Come and learn about the rich Native American culture and traditions that are embedded into the history of our county. A great event for adults and children alike!

- Come enjoy a fall hike at the Ipswich River Wildlife Sanctuary in Topsfield, Mass Audubon’s largest sanctuary. Visitors will have the opportunity to enhance their hike by visiting naturalist-docents on the sanctuary trails. Docents will be stationed in a field, by a beaver pond and at a bird observation tower overlooking a freshwater marsh. Visit them to learn about the fall migration of monarch butterflies, the natural history of the American beaver, and the habitat needs of migrating waterfowl. - Trainiacs, choo choo on down to Wenham Museum's model train gallery, featuring 9 operating model layouts—in G, O, HO, N, and Z gauges—with 12 trains that all operate with the push of a button. Railroad artifacts, memorabilia, large-scale models and antique toy trains are also on display. Model train and railroad experts are on hand to answer your questions, discuss scenery building and layout construction, and offer advice to railroad hobbyists. Wenham Museum’s model train engineers will be laying the track for Train Time 15: A Celebration of 30 Years of Model Trains at Wenham Museum open October 10, 2008. Admission to the galleries is not included.
