Visit the Whittier Home

Delightful and engaging paintings of life in Marblehead and at sea in times past, painted in the 1920s by J.O.J. Frost of Marblehead when he was in his 70s, following the death of his beloved wife Anna. Dramatic scenes of a great September gale that destroyed half the town's fleet in 1846 and brought an end to fishing as the town's principal industry. Wooden models of fish drying on racks (called flakes) and of North Atlantic seabirds called hagdons, now long vanished. She was brought back to her room here and turned to her Bible for inspiration and healing. After reading an account of one of Jesus' healings she found herself suddenly well. Join the Manchester-Essex Conservation Trust and use navigational skills to find geo-caches and natural treasures in the Wilderness Conservation Area. Small groups will use GPS receivers or compasses to find well-hidden buckets containing treats for children and info sheets on what is seen. This will be a nature treasure hunt for children, too. The Parson Barnard House

Hospital Point Lighthouse

As one of Beverly's most familiar landmarks this lighthouse commands a spectacular view of Salem Sound, and 3 other lighthouses at Baker's Island, Winter Island, and Marblehead. Forest Walk at Gordon Woods

Enjoy an interpretive walk in the Gordon Woods with students from a Gordon College environmental group and faculty. See birds, learn about forest ecology, find out about the pressures New England forests are facing, and see some vernal pools. Walk will be on paths with medium paced hiking. However, there are some inclines and uneven surfaces. Bring binoculars and field guides if you wish.

Walking Tour of Wenham Canal
