Donald Yacovone received his Ph. D. from the Claremont Graduate School in 1984, taught at Pitzer College, University of Arizona, and Millersville University, and was assistant editor of the Black Abolitionist Papers. Yacovone, a lecturer in the Organization of American Historian’s “Distinguished Lecturer” series, has collaborated on many public history programs in the Boston area and has written extensively on the antislavery movement, the Civil War, and on 19th century gender roles. His fifth book is Freedom’s Journey: African American Voices of the Civil War (Chicago, 2004).
