Using a combination of primary sources and secondary analysis from the book,The Origins of the Vietnam War by Fredrik Logevall, St. Anselm College’s Dr. Matt Masur will lead teachers through this seminar about the United States’ involvement in the Vietnam War.  Dr. Masur will examine the war as a facet of Cold War foreign policy and then will turn to its effect on home front politics and culture and its current incarnation as a lesson about the limits of American military power.

During the afternoon, the seminar will turn to methodology as we examine options and techniques for using media in the classroom.  The Vietnam War, because it has been widely portrayed in television, movie, and print culture, provides a perfect opportunity to discuss ways to successfully integrate these sources into the classroom.  Come ready to discuss your own classroom strategies and sources and be part of this useful discussion!
